Eco Factor: 10,000-kilometer green journey completed on solar-powered bike.

Crossing isolated desert, mountains and countryside on an eco-bike is a brilliant way to spread a green message, while enjoying adventurous green ride. A French solar cyclist Florian Bailly set off for an eco-trip through 12 countries and across 2 continents some four months ago. Supporting Bailly in this grueling tour was his bike, which is a combination of human, electric and solar power.

The bike sports an additional custom-made trailer in its rear that carries two solar panels to provide juice for the ride. Powered by an electric motor that run on two lithium batteries, the green bike helped Bailly completed the 10,000-kilometer journey in less than two-thirds of the time it would have taken on a conventional bike. Starting his journey from Frace, Bailly travelled through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan , China and finally reaching his final destination Japan earlier this week.

The solar bicycle enabled him to travel around 120 kilometers a day, covering the terrain from France to Japan in just four months. A normal push bicycle would have covered the same amount of distance in nearly six months. After this fascinating expedition, now Bailly dream of creating to create a new solar electric bike race from France to other places in the world.
