Flowering meadow on the roof-top!

west village apartment building

Sitting at the 6th floor of a building, far above the greeneries of the earth, you can still enjoy a sedum-laid lawn, topped with tiny yellow, white and purple flowers just in front of you. Just take the idea from Eileen Stukane, David Puchkoff and their daughter, Masha.

They have created a porch and a miniature meadow on top of their West Village apartment building. True, the family could do away with potted plants on the roof-top. But, for Ms. Stukane potted plants look like unbroken land and nature, not giving the feel of a lush green surrounding.

The meadow is 1,200-square-foot in area, and is planted with thousands of sedums. These fleshy plants thrive in heat and drought, and are native mostly to Europe and Asia. And when it rains, they absorb water like a sponge. The meadows too, do not strain the weight-bearing capacity of the roof.
