Floating Solar Lily pads on Clyde to empower Glasgow

Soon Glasgow’ Clyde river will be a house to new kinda lilies belonging to the solar family. We have seen solar panels on roof of houses, vehicles, in gardens and backyards and many more places. But it’s the first time that I came across this concept of floating solar panels on the River Clyde to soak up the sun’s rays get materialized. Already, the winner of the International Design Awards, the concept of these lily shaped discs, from Glasgow-based ZM Architecture, has been handed to the city council with the hope that a trial project could go-ahead. Effectively, the energy gathered by these discs will be transformed and to the national grid, and integrated motors could rotate the pads in order to follow the sun for maximum output.

It is believed that the design was inspired by nature (but obvious) and that these lily pads could be tethered to the river bed. Glasgow can now erase its carbon footprints once this project gets in force.
