With the world afflicted with global warming concerns, and up with arms to fight at the roots of it, more and more transport operators are cuing in to prove their green credentials.

The 2 billion ‘passenger journeys-maker per year, FirstGroup — a leading Scottish transport company — is no exception, and has joined the herd of going green with their transport. It recently, announced a plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions by up to a quarter. Ah! Once effectively implemented, this would be a considerable contribution towards global warming reduction.

The Group’s climate change strategy is to generate 25 percent less CO2 at its British rail and bus operations.

They plan to attend this by retraining thousands of FirstGroup rail and bus drivers, but in fuel-efficient driving techniques. Besides this, the company would also explore regenerative braking for trains.

As part of the strategy, it would run some of its bus fleet on bio-fuel. Once, the target is hit, FirstGroup will alone be able to eliminate 250,000 tonnes of emissions by 2020.
