Eco Factor: Zero-emission commercial vehicle powered by lead-acid batteries.
UK-based ePower Trucks has unveiled a new all-electric light commercial vehicle that can deliver a payload of 670kg and has a GVW of 3.5 tons. The zero-emission commercial vehicle, the XT320E 3.5t, will cost about $47,000, which is half the price of the current 3.5t electric vans available on the market.
The XT320E 3.5t uses lead-acid batteries that are adapted from military use in tanks. The maintenance-free batteries can operated at temperature of up to -20 degrees Celsius. The 13KWh battery pack provides a range of about 60 miles on a single charge, but can be swapped with a fully recharged pack in less than three minutes, using a pallet truck. Since the vehicle is available with a double battery pack, the effective range is extended to 120 miles.
