Eco Factor: Dye-sensitized solar cells for energy generating windows.
Sony has demonstrated new dye-sensitized solar cells for energy generating windows at Eco Product 2010. Dubbed the Hana Mado or “Flower Power,” the beautifully designed solar panel uses screen printing to generate custom designs according to the consumer’s preferences. The panels can be developed in any color that the user specifies.

For the purpose of demonstration, the company attached a small fan to the panel, which stopped turning when the incident light was blocked. In addition to being a beautiful system to generate renewable energy, the Hana Mado costs less than other solar tech and is easy to install in existing infrastructure.
