What use can shipping containers be put to? It works as a house. Don’t believe it. The Push Button House, looks like a container until the button is pressed. Within 90 seconds the walls of the container open like a flower to unveil a fully furnished ready to use five room home, complete with a dining room, a library, a kitchen, bedroom and living room.

A specially designed computer located inside the dining room, controls the actuators that are responsible for revealing the stunning innovation, designed by noted artist/architect Adam Kalkin. This fully functional house is completely eco friendly as well; it is made from recycled or recyclable materials. The use is varied from disaster relief housing to luxury dwelling.

The European premier took place in June this year during the 52nd Venice Biennale and currently holiday shoppers and enthusiasts can appreciate the design over a cup of complimentary coffee at New York City’s Time Warner Center from November 29 – December 29, 2007.
