Green shelter for homeless people in Detroit

Cass Community Social Services, a non-profit organization, started the nation's first eco-gym facility in Detroit on Wednesday. This time, it is only for the homeless population of the region. It is beneficial both in terms of public service and toward the environment in the sense that it will not only help homeless people, but also reduce energy costs.

Cass’s power grid will receive electricity generated through 20 stationary bicycles installed in the gym. Four daily classes for a year can produce enough electricity to light 36 homes for a month. The gym is situated in a warehouse and is available for 240 homeless people.
