GM to install world’s largest rooftop solar array at Spanish plant

Asmita PrasadJul 9 2008

Automobile giants General Motors are collaborating with Clairvoyant Energy, Veolia Environmental and the Government of Aragon to have their Zaragosa assembly plant in Spain installed with the world's largest rooftop solar array. The facility follows two of GM California warehouses that are already installed with solar panels which provide up to 50% of the electricity usage in these facilities. The 12MW array will beat the size of the previous record holder, the 2.36MW Atlantic Convention Centre, by 9.64MW. Covering over 2 million square feet with its 85,000 panels, the project will help GM reduce their energy costs as well as provide “clean power” to the local power grid. The operation and maintenance of the grid will be looked after by Clairvoyant Energy and Veolia Environmental.
