Europe is ready to launch its most sophisticated weather and climate satellite -- the Metop spacecraft -- to date. Kazakhstan will soon witness its launch from its land into its 850km-high polar orbit. A Soyuz-Fregat vehicle will be carrying it to the orbit.

Metop's eight instruments will be gathering a range of data relating to the planet's atmospheric and surface conditions, thus, improving forecasting globally. It will provide scientists with detailed data that can help them use for refining models that describe how Earth's systems work.
