U.S. Defense contractor Lockheed Martin will build and operate a 290MW solar thermal plant that would be able to generate about 290MW of electricity. The news came days after Mohave Sun Power announced that the company has created a single-purpose company called Hualapai Valley Solar LLC to develop a solar thermal plant to generate 340MW of electricity in the Mohave.

The 290MW plant to be built by Lockheed Martin will be owned by an affiliate private equity firm, Starwood Energy, and will generate enough energy to power 73,000 homes. The plant, named Starwood Solar I, will be located 75 miles west of Phoenix and is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
