Hitachi claims to have developed a new lithium-ion battery that tops its previous versions by 70% in output density. The batteries are intended to be used in next-gen electric and hybrid cars, making them reliable, fast and efficient at the same time. The batteries will undoubtedly cost more than any other battery being used presently, but will make electric cars more practical.

Boasting an output density of 4,500W, the battery will be launched sometime in 2010 along with another weaker version that has an output density of 2,250W. The company claims that the lifespan of the battery exceeds 10 years, which is about 2 years more than its predecessors.
