Eco Factor: Energy-efficient television from Toshiba.

Flexible OLED screens have always shown their mettle whenever it comes to energy conservation. Toshiba has now thought of another use for flexible OLED screens, which can make them more useful than simply a futuristic billboard. The paper television from Toshiba is being touted to be more energy-efficient that conventional plasmas or LCD screens.

Instead of any hard image focusing system, the flexible TV uses light that has been redirected using a fine grating automatically generated by dynamic nano-particles. Apart from projecting moving images, something which TVs are developed for, this OLED TV by Toshiba can also project images and emit light, thereby reducing the need for extravagant lighting systems.

The Dark Side:

Toshiba accepts that its flexible TV technology is just in its infancy and will take some years before end consumers can get a TV that can double as indoor lighting.
