Refrigerators don't always having a full load of food items in them. This means that most of the time the energy is wasted to keep an empty compartment cool. Designer Tez Patel has come up with a pioneering solution to this problem – a refrigerator that has individually powered compartments.

Dubbed the Oceania, the refrigerator comes with different sections, which are individually powered using thermoelectric modules. These sections open like a drawer with two-fold benefits – they increase accessibility and visibility and also make sure that a potential user can power down the sections which are empty using the LCD display or a remote control, thereby saving on precious electricity.

The bottom section is cooled using an ecofriendly water reservoir which reaches temperatures good enough to store fruits and vegetables.

The Dark Side:
Apart from the high costs of multi-door refrigerators the power this system will suck if all its compartments are working will be much more than what a conventional single door refrigerator needs.
