Raised on an organic farm in Verdigris, Oklahoma Architect Shelby Navarro took his eco friendly childhood lessons along to build green home that won the top or platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's program when it was completed in June 2008. Called the Tulsa Duplex the house features an ultra efficient exterior made of prefabricated structured insulated panels using sheets of plywood and high density foam.

The house has an efficient geo thermal heating and cooling system along with a grass roof and floor length windows for ventilation. All the effort has cut down the monthly utility bills to just $100. The duplex’s green interior has been furnished with reclaimed Wisconsin barn wood, recycled glass tiles, and bedroom carpet along with formaldehyde-free bamboo flooring. The duplex’s furnishing cost around $210 a square foot and it was recently chosen as "This Week's Green House".
