The already critically endangered hawksbill turtle is under threat of its going extinct, by poaching, fishing and loss of habitat. The females are more threatened as they return to the same beach to lay eggs up to eight times in one season, when fall prey in the hands of poachers.
But, since the rare turtle migrate across the Indian Ocean, the Zoological Society of London scientists plan to monitor them by tagging them and monitor via satellite with the hope to find out where the turtles go the rest of the year – and aid conservation efforts.
