Eco Factor: Fuel cell system to support mobile networks in off-grid locations.

In an effort to connect the world with mobile communication network, Electro Power Systems has unveiled a hydrogen fuel cell system at the Mobile World Congress 2010 that is designed to bring mobile networks to places that are either off-grid or have unreliable power.

Dubbed the ElectroSelf, the self-contained and self-recharging system needs water to produce electricity via a hydrogen fuel cell. The zero-emission system can be used as backup power or as mains power. Measuring 600 X 800mm, the system doesn’t require a dedicated air conditioning system as well, which reduces energy demand.

Power is produced by the system by combining hydrogen and oxygen with the only by product being clean water. Hydrogen fuel is produced by electrolysis of wastewater created from the power generation phase automatically where there is enough power.
