Eco Factor: Self-sufficient bus stop generates solar energy for power.

The Istituto Europeo di Design of Barcelona and Capmar S.L., along with the EMT, has unveiled the first solar-powered bus stop in Spain. The totally self-sufficient bus stop uses its own energy resources and doesn’t need wiring.

The SBS (Solar Bus Stop) carries a unique information system that keeps the users informed about the time of arrival of buses. The information keeps updating every 30 seconds to ensure that the users get the correct information at every time.

The design is based on a structure of two tubular columns of iron of a square section of 8x8cm, with a height of 3.5m and a width of 67cm. The top of the bus stop carries a photovoltaic panel that generates enough energy to keep the SBS functioning for about two days without sun.
