Eco Factor: SolFocus clinches deal with EMPE Solar for the largest concentrated solar deployment in the world.

SolFocus, a provider of CPVs (Concentrated Photovoltaic Modules) has signed a $103 million deal with EMPE solar to install over 10 MW of CPV projects in multiple sites across southern Spain. The project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010, will be capable of providing green electricity to a city of 40,000 residents.

The company has already shown that there is no one better than them when it comes to Concentrated Photovoltaics. With an amalgamation of highly efficient PV cells and advanced optics, PV modules developed by SolFocus require 1/1000 the amount of photovoltaic material typically used in other PV modules. The company is also planning a commercial project in the California desert, which should provide solar electricity in the neighboring areas.

The Dark Side:

Projects such as this are needed if we have to end our dependence of fossil fuels. The project gets all smiles from us.
