Eco Factor: Hybrid solar module provides more power at low level insolation.
Prism Solar Technologies has come up with an innovative breakthrough in solar technology that makes it possible to generate more renewable power in areas like New York where the insolation level is comparatively low.
The newly developed technology, dubbed the Holographic Planar Concentrator™ (HPC), features a hybrid use unique holographic thin-film coupled with crystalline PV. The thin-film strips diffract both direct and reflected energy to the PV cell strips integrated between strips of thin-film. The technique reduces the amount of silicon required to make the same energy.
The company claims that the bi-facial modules can generate as much as 30% more energy because the thin-film receives light from both directions.
