Caffeine is not considered great for your health, but it can do wonders for the environment, your pocket and your car if new research conducted by researchers at the University of Nevada at Reno is to be believed. These experts have suggested that about 5-7 kg of coffee grounds can yield up to one liter of bio-fuel, which if mass-produced, would cost about $1 per gallon.
While corn is considered best for producing bio-fuel, any oily plant product can replace corn. The US estimates that the annual consumption of coffee is over 7 tons, which if used for bio-fuel can churn out 340 million gallons, which could help reduce carbon emissions and favor those in love with the distinct smell of fresh ground coffee.
The Dark Side:
Like all bio-fuels, coffee-made bio-fuel will not be a zero-emission alternative to gasoline. For a cleaner and a fuel efficient world of tomorrow, electricity is what researchers should focus on.
