Eco Factor: School’s computer lab powered by renewable energy.

Climbing on the renewable energy wagon, Abbotsford Middle School has become the first school in Canada to power a computer lab with three different sources of renewable energy that include a photovoltaic array, a wind turbine and bicycle-powered generators.

Collectively, the three forms of renewable energy sources provide power to a battery system that then fuels the innovative computer lab. Any excess charge is directed to the school’s energy grid.

The innovative computer lab is doing much more than generating about 1094KW of renewable power each year and saving 1100 pounds of CO2 emissions. It’s helping the kids learn the importance of green power and the best ways to generate it.
