EcoFactor: Building a solar panel out of solar cells.

Going green isn’t that easy as solar panel installations cost a bomb. However, building a 60 watt power packed DIY solar panel from solar cells is relatively easy. Each panel is made up of a number of solar cells, depending on the voltage you want to get out of it. Each cell creates a little more than .5 volts DC, no matter what the size. The only thing that changes with size is the current. If you take a .5 volt at 3 amp solar cell and break it in half, you get two .5 volt at 1.5 amp cells. Each cell has positive leads on the bottom and negative leads on top. Wire it up and you got a panel!

Construction of this panel will be 1/3 rd of the price of a purchased panel, and even less if you can build from salvaged materials. There is virtually no maintenance required. It’s a simple concept with intense utilities. Just assemble various parts and you have your very own solar panel.

The Dark Side:

Inexperienced people are better off seeking help from people who have the skill to build such things in order to avoid unnecessary accidents. This project needs to be carefully executed for fruitful results. Also, make sure that you don’t install a DIY solar panel where the sun doesn’t shine!
