Eco Factor: Solar powered stations offer people a greener way to charge.

German designer Julene Aguirre-Bielschowsky recognizes the need of a greener way to charge our electronic gear anywhere we might be. The designer has developed a green charging structure known as Sun Station. Made from materials such as concrete, teak wood and stainless steel, the Sun Station can be placed in a wide variety of places, where it can harness the sun.

The designer hopes that the structures would be able to generate about 84W of power, which should be sufficient for laptops, cell phones and other portable gadgets that require on-the-move charging. The electricity is generated by mono crystalline solar cells located 3 meters above the ground for less shading and higher efficiency. A green light below the solar panel informs the user about the availability of electricity. The socket is placed in a transparent safety cover which has lights indicating the amount of energy the gadget is using.

The Dark Side:

The concept looks good and the idea of providing green electricity seems stunning. However, this system could only be used only on a clear day and at that time too the light which indicates the availability of charge would not be visible.
