Eco Factor: Energy absorbing system harnesses noise for clean electricity.

For most the noise on the streets is annoying, but for industrial designers Jihoon Kim, Boyeon Kim, Myung-Suk Kim and Da-Woon Chun it is a chance to generate renewable energy to power our homes. The designers have come up with a concept energy absorbing system that harvests all that noise to generate electricity.

Dubbed Sonea, the system measures 450mm X 450mm X 80mm and with all those noise energy harvesting systems on board it weighs about 7kg. According to the designers the system can generate about 30W of clean power by harvesting a decibel of sound.

An average plane produces about 140dB of sound when taking off, which calculates to about 240KW of power and coupled with about 500 airplane takes offs each day, which is normal for a busy airport the device can generate approximately 120MW of green power.
