Eco Factor: Energy-efficient lighting systems for parking lots.

According to a study conducted by U.S. Department of Energy, only 4% of the parking lot lights in the United States are fluorescent based and the other 96% are based on conventional lighting techniques. These parking lots consume a whopping 22.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. With the increase in the number of cars, this figure is bound to increase in the next couple of years. Orion Energy has come out with an answer in the form of energy-efficient lighting systems for parking lots.

The fixtures are based on fluorescent lamps that could reduce energy consumption by over 50%. The lights are designed to work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions so that they could work perfectly in all climatic conditions.

The Dark Side:

For now fluorescent and LED lights seems to be a viable solution to cut down on energy use. However, with the passage of time, the energy crisis will only escalate and will demand more efficient technologies for lighting purposes. The use of renewable energy can have an answer at that moment.
