Eco Gadgets: Motive Bike Computer instigates you to use a bike

Eco Factor: Bike mounted computer generates vital information about rider and the bike.

We’ve been regular in encouraging our readers to use bike on a daily basis, not only to keep them fit, but to keep the environment in good shape. However, research points out that only 5% of Americans commute via bicycle, just because biking is a slow and an unattractive means of traveling. Designed by FishoDeath, the Motive Bike Computer is set to change the misconceptions about biking and inspire urban commuters to go green.

The Motive Bike Computer is a small device that will be installed on bikes. It would be a combination of a computer and an online community. The computer will record data such as the distance traveled, the amount of fuel saved, the number of calories burnt, top speed and other vital stats about the commuter. The commuters can then logon to a certain webpage and check out their statistics. The same data will be used by manufacturers to design more comfortable and attractive bikes that can encourage more people to follow.

The housing and the electrical components of the computer would be made of sustainable and recyclable materials, and the computer would be able to connect wirelessly to a centralized hub where it can receive software upgrades.

The Dark Side:

The system seems too complex for practical use. However, if the system is actually developed and installed it could definitely inspire many people to do their bit for the environment.
