Eco Factor: Solar energy harnessing blinds light up your evenings in style.

Putting an end to all conventional ways of lighting your rooms in the evenings, Korean designers Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim have developed The Solar Vertical Lamp. The duo thinks that it’s useless to power expensive lamps with electricity when your window blinds can solve the purpose without even spending a cent on electricity.

The designers have made good use of the blinds that are closed during the day to prevent your house from overheating. These blinds are incorporated with little solar pads that keep on charging all through the day. Once the sun goes down, these blinds power up LED fixtures that too are built-in in the blinds. The Solar vertical lamp will be available in three designs that include a floor lamp, a table lamp and a stylish chandelier.

The Dark Side:

Blinds are meant to keep the sun out during the day and allow you to catch the glimpses of a beautiful evening outside. Since the blinds need to be closed to display the lights, users might not be able to pull back the blinds. We would have appreciated the design even more had the blinds been able to light up a conventional bedside lamp.
