Eco Factor: Phone charged by kinetic energy comes with a variety of health monitoring sensors.
Recently we witnessed a basic phone powered by solar energy, and now we have one that powers itself by harnessing the kinetic energy of the body. The phone has specifically been designed for athletes and other people involved in sports. Designed by Oana Oniga, the phone does much more than keeping the user connected to the world.
The SportPhone is to be worn like a wristband and comes with a variety of body monitoring sensors that include a 3D motion sensor, heartbeat rate monitor and calorie sensor. The waterproof, shock resistant phone is made of flexible rubber that allows the user to easily pull down the phone from the arm, to not lose the ear and mouth connection during a phone call. The phone’s ability to recharge itself by harnessing the kinetic energy of the body is great to sustain the energy-intensive applications that the phone is made to run.
The Dark Side:
The design doesn’t tell us the way a potential user would enter text or numbers in the phone. If the phone makes use of a touch sensitive screen, the user would have to take care not to scratch the display while playing basketball, something we think won’t go with the robust image of the phone.
