Eco Factor: The new Eee Box reduces energy consumption by 90% compared with normal desktops.

ASUS has been on a green road since the last few months in a very aggressive fashion. After launching its Bamboo Series of notebooks, which sport a cool design and are partially biodegradable, it is time for them to hit the desktops with green additions. The new Eee Box launched by the company is one of the best eco-gadgets to have come up from the OC firm, and its simple and stylish design appeals to all. The box is sleek and easy to set up, eliminating all those wires and sockets that make your desk messy and eventually end up as waste.

The Eee box’s best feature is obviously its energy saving ability. The simple box cuts down the energy needs of your system by good 90% and cuts down on the booting time as well. The Eee operates on Windows XP and comes with 4 USB slots, Intel Chipset and 80GB of memory. The whole thing sounds like a cool-green package for now.

The Dark Side:

While the price of the Eee Box is not yet known, it could very well prove to be factor that discourages people from taking it up. Also, the XP operating system might not make too many people happy, especially since there won’t be any updates from Microsoft. And it would be interesting to know if the box itself was designed out of material that can be recycled.
