Eco Factor: Low carbon tumble dryer runs on gas rather than electricity.
British firm White Knight has come up with a couple of gas-powered tumble dryers that they hope will be able to reduce the user’s carbon footprint. These dryers could be a blessing for countries like the UK, where most of the electricity consumed is generated in coal-fired power plants.
Natural gas has relatively low carbon emissions compared to coal-generated electricity, which enables the Eco Tumble Dryers to have half a carbon footprint than electric dryers. Not only do these dryers save on carbon emissions but they also have a low running cost. Where an electric dryer costs £95 to run annually, the Eco Tumble Dryer would just cost £38.
The Dark Side:
While carbon saving, gas powered dryers are not carbon neutral. If electricity is from sustainable and renewable sources, gas powered dryers could prove to be a menace for the environment.
