Five eco friendly products made using shopping carts

Whenever you go for shopping, one thing that accompanies you is a shopping cart. While the conventional shopping cart manufacturers never thought of eco friendly shopping carts, the rising awareness of growing green has compelled designers to take a new look at the shopping carts of the recent times. Thus, the new revamping of shopping cart is to get them to other uses when they cease to be functional anymore. Some of the functional products have been compiled here that are made from discarded shopping carts. These wise projects work towards reducing the overfilling of the landfills and unjustified utilization of natural resources.

Camper Kart

This innovative shopping cart is more than a typical cart. Along with carrying the goodies that you buy at the retail mart, it can carry you too. The Brooklyn based eco-conscious designer, Kevin Cyr, has given this aspect a really deep thought. Thus, he has created a completely self sustainable home by making use of shopping cart. This project has been named by the designer as Camper Kart. The mobile cart also features a retractable roof and a back door.

Annie shopping chair

This beautiful piece of furniture can be a part of any modern home décor. Its sleek function and stylish look will never let you guess that this is made from recycled shopping cart. This unique product is perhaps functional enough to serve as a chair as well as a shopping cart. Its functions and aesthetic appeal made it get featured at the Elle Decoration and The Guardian and be a part of the Prince Charles’ eco-home show in 2011.

Lawn chair by Mike Bouchet

The creative mind behind this innovative recycled art is Mike Bouchet, the Frankfurt-based American artist. The basic frame work of this excellent lawn chair is zinc plated steel that is durable and rust resistant. The comfort of the user is ensured by its soft cushion that is made from polyester and cotton blended fabric with polyester foam filling. A disposed off shopping cart was revamped in order to create this garden furniture. The flanked up sides of a typical shopping cart had been cut off and the back and front of the same have been remodeled in such a way that they form the slanting back and the sitting area of a lawn chair. The height of the chair can be adjusted according to the preference of the user.

Artist Ramon Coronado’s park furniture

The MacArthur Park in Los Angeles is a living example of the recycled art of the recent times. This man behind this innovative eco conscious project is artist Roman Coronado. The lack of amusement in the area made the designer come up with this fun project for kids. But it is not as childish as you might think. He undertook a 12-day project, which he named as Mercado Negro. As a part of the project, he gathered together all the trash from the area, dumped at the sidewalks, along with the disposed off shopping carts. Hence, from the lamp posts to garden chairs, everything has been made from recycled objects.

Sculptures made out of old shopping carts

What can be an even fresher approach toward recycling the discarded objects than this? Some of the eco conscious designers have created excellent sculptures from thrown away shopping carts. These serve as unique centerpieces at the shopping malls, departmental stores and marts that will be constant reminders of eco consciousness.
