Eco Factor: Car powered by electricity generates solar power.
Industrial designer Jay Sim believes that the reasons for the failure of various ecofriendly cars were not actually in them but in the transportation system on the whole. This thinking changed the focus of the designer into designing a system for the year 2023 where his concept vehicle dubbed Urban Vehicle 2023 can operate.
Rather than luring people to drive EVs to work every day and waiting for hours to get them recharged, the proposed system is based on an electric vehicle that can be rented and allows the user to use it as an important connector between various mass transit systems.
The car runs on an electric engine and carries roof-mounted solar panels that can be used to charge the vehicle on the move or when it’s parked. The system tries to solve the problems normally associated with electric cars that include low speed and less operating range. The Urban Vehicle 2023 will only be used as a connector vehicle and hence won’t be driven for long, and since the commuters will be using more of mass transit it also ensures that you normally will never be late for work.
