Eco Factor: Zero-emission DIY car running on electricity.
We recently featured the endeavor of a retired auto mechanic who designed a car to run on electricity for just $500, and now we have another similar development by a retired electrical engineer who has modified an old Dodge Neon and made it run on clean electricity.
Michel Bonard wanted to spend less on fuel and do more for the environment and he found his answers in a vehicle powered by electricity. The inventor bought a $1000 Dodge Neon from Craigslist and spent $14,000 on the modifications.
The car’s hood now looks like an electrical closet in an office or the back of a network server. With 12 batteries fueling an 80hp motor, the vehicle manages to get a range of about 30 miles after a 10 hour recharge. Michel installed a little alarm that beeps whenever the car is in reverse.
