Eco Factor: Cars powered by used vegetable oils taking skiers to mountain resorts of Colorado.

Kristopher Klain is a man who envisions a greener Colorado with his veggie oil powered shuttle service to the mountain resorts in the state. Klain used to work as a waiter in a Denver restaurant, where he got an idea to use the waste vegetable oil right from the deep fryer to power a car that can shuttle skiers to the ski areas.

What started as a confused idea has now yielded results, taking Klain from a waiter’s job to the owner of seven veggie-powered SUVs and a small company called the Colorado Green Shuttle. Klain collects waste vegetable oil from restaurants and filters it himself. This filtered oil is directly filled in the tanks of cars that have been modified to run on this unconventional fuel. Apart from giving a French-fried ride to the mountains, Klain tries to introduce some luxury in the ride by offering a beverage service, DVD viewing and laptop-charging facilities.

The Dark Side:

The cars might provide green rides for now, but with the use of untreated vegetable oils, the lifespan of the engine will be hampered considerably.
