Eco Factor: Sustainable car powered by hydrogen.

Designed by a team from MINI Space, the BMW Salt Flat racer is truly a race car developed for a sustainable future. Though the design of the car seems adopted from the past decades, the technology under its hood can by no means be termed conventional. Looking like a torpedo at first glance, the Salt Flat Racer has been designed using recycled materials and all that comes out of its exhaust pipe is clean water.

The design team made use of discarded materials that includes recycled BBQ grill, bomb shell and an old oil drum and turned them into the main components like the body and the wheels. The car is powered by hydrogen, which is generated by an onboard electrolyzer that converts water into its main components that is hydrogen and oxygen. While oxygen is emitted into the atmosphere, the hydrogen produced is captured and stored as fuel.
