Eco Factor: Human-powered three-wheeled commuter bicycle.

If you weren’t entirely satisfied with gyro sensors on a two-wheeled bike developed by the Japanese, then a three-wheeled bike could just be right for you. Designed by Alexander and Inga Peterson, this three-wheeled commuter, dubbed the “Valetudo,” has been made for cities known for a heavy rainfall, like the Rio De Janerio, Brazil.

The bike has a one-piece frame that has been made from recycled plastic. The plastic casing all over the bike’s body not only makes it look stunning, but also prevents the metal parts inside that include the gear and pedal mechanism, from rust. Rubber saddle bags are attached to this bike to keep your groceries and other items safe. The design also makes use of standard bike components, so you don’t need a specialist if something goes wrong inside it. The best feature we found in the bike was the integration of a suspension system in the front wheel, which not only promises a comfortable ride but also provides a far better turning radius. The wheels here have a negative camber angle that allows turning by simply pulling and pushing the side handlebar.

The Dark Side:

The design shows that the pedals are way back and the seat is right next to the handlebar. We don’t think that riding this machine would be as comfortable as one would really want.

[Thanks: Alexander]
