Eco Factor: Recyclable pavilion designed for Burnham Plan Centennial celebrations.

Architects Zaha Hadid and Ben van Berkel have designed two eco-pavilions that will be used for Burnham Plan Centennial celebrations this summer in Chicago. The pavilions are designed to promote ecofriendly architecture and sustainable design as hot terms for a green future.

The curvilinear pavilion designed by Zaha Hadid will be made by stretching fabric over an aluminum frame. The aluminum frame is collapsible and once the celebrations are over, the pavilion will travel to other locations and venues, which might also include the Olympic Games in London.

The other pavilion designed by Ben van Berkel would be crafted out of a unique mix of materials that will include steel and wood. This structure too is designed to be deconstructed, but unlike Hadid’s pavilion, this one is designed to be recycled and not re-used.
