Eco Factor: Office building includes wind generators and solar panels to generate electricity.

Architecture deserves attention, especially when it’s sustainable and self-sufficient, bringing the energy consumption to a level as low as it can. Skyscrapers being build around the world are up to this very aspect and even while conceiving such ideas, a contemplative attention is must so that more and more contribution could be given toward the environment. In this list of sustainable commercial buildings, another structure is being developed in Helsinki-Vantaa airport city Aviapolis. The “Aviapolis Tower” is a prize-winning design and claims to accommodate several new concepts for working and communication.

The building is 70 meters high with a slender shape and spherical voids serving as common spaces, meeting areas and green spaces. An energy park has especially been designed to fulfill required energy demand. It includes wind generators and solar panels built in a series. The park lies somewhere between the building and the highway. Even in its aesthetic point of view, the tower will be a landmark of its own kind.

The Dark Side: The design doesn’t define how self-sufficient it is in generating energy through windmills and solar panels. Further, to make the tower a zero energy structure, material used should be taken into consideration.
