Donald Knaack: Creating symphonies and melodies out of junk!

Maybe not many would ever recognize him by the name of Donald Knaack, but call him ‘Junkman’ and most of the world already knows about him. If you have hit the cover of Billboard with nothing but junk, then you sure have achieved something very special (And in this case I do not mean ‘junk’ as in the case of the videos of Britney). The Junkman actually creates beautiful tunes out of trash making everything appear both synonymous with magical sound and a wonderful environmental cause. His passion to save the planet and his love for music have come together to make something both unique and special.

It all began when Knaack studied with the renowned composer John Cage, who introduced him to using recycled materials as instruments of music. Knaack went on to record and tour with Cage and over the years, developed his own unique style of music, which is not popular as ‘Junk Music’. Donald ha created more albums out of instruments made out of junk than anyone alive. All his music instruments are made from salvaged trash and this he hopes will encourage more and more people to reduce, reuse and recycle- something all eco-conscious individuals tell you.

It is important to note that more than just preaching something, it is better to get it across and far more easier if you present it in a form that kids and adults take to. Nothing can be more efficient in getting that done than music. That is exactly why the Junkman goes across the country with his junk to spread both awareness and some good spirit. Now here is the icing on the cake- he even has composed and performed an opera with his junk! Now that truly is one classy collection of junk.
