Eco Factor: Sustainable facility to harvest renewable solar energy and rainwater.

Dogs Trust, the largest dog welfare charity in the UK, has revealed plans to build a state-of-the-art Rehoming Center in Leicestershire, which is being billed as the greenest in the world. With an aim to reduce running costs and its carbon “pawprint,” the new center will feature a biomass boiler, green roofs, under-floor heating, solar panels and a rainwater recycling system.

The facility will be able to look after 135 dogs at one time and will include 64 rehoming, intake and puppy kennels, all of which will be angled and glass-fronted. The sustainable design of the structure of the buildings and the use of renewable energy generating systems will reduce energy consumption of the new center by at least 30 percent when compared with other similar size rehoming centers.
