DIY Sensei Ninja 250 electric motorcycle promises a clean ride

Sensei Ninja 250

Electric motorcycles with their noiseless features (though this remark can be offensive to some) and zero emission attributes certainly make for a sweet (if not a boisterous) ride. But the conception can be made even ‘sweeter’ if it is a DIY project, customized by one’s own hands. Automotive enthusiast Bill Mills has exactly done this and more, by ingeniously contriving an all electric bike of his own, which is based on the exalted Kawasaki Ninja 250.

Christened as the Sensei (meaning master in Japanese), Mills’s version is driven by 24 aviation grade lithium iron phosphate batteries. The power density offered by the battery pack puts the conception in the same weight class and similar center of gravity, relating to its original gas guzzling cousin. The efficient low emission system can power the customized motorbike to a substantial top speed of 55miles/hr (approximately 88km/hr), while the range lies somewhere around 30 miles (48 km). Certainly not bad especially if we consider it as a DIY conception, built specifically for urban commuting.

Coming to the performance, the designer made it clear that a taut acceleration was maintained by the vehicle even in cramped city conditions. So, it is a convenient (and sustainable) design that banks on user practicality. But we commend it even further because of that element of novelty and inspiration that Sensei can instill in fellow bikers, to adamantly go green.
