Dirt used as an eco-friendly flooring option

Eco Friendly Earth Flooring

Going ecofriendly does not mean living in a solar powered house and driving a green car. Even your home should be made from stuff that does not harm the environment. Lately we have talked about floors made from recycled wood and cork, they all promise to have a minimal impact on the environment. Here is another recipe for an eco-friendly floor.

Take some dirt, mix it with straw or other fibers and stabilize it with natural oils and you get the raw material for your floor. This floor not only reduces the embodies energy as compared to concrete by up to 90% but also remains light on your pocket and gives an attractive finish to your home.

But all this does not come without any disadvantages – Since the floor is made from dirt it requires high maintenance as it can be easily scratched. Another disadvantage is that such floors can only be installed by a few experienced contractors so you would have to use a DIY if you want to have this in your dream home.
