Creating visual magic from discarded books and old encyclopedias

What do you do with all those old books that you have? Most of us either lock away books we consider of no value or just discard them. Not Alexander Korzer-Robinson, who with his stunning imagination, brilliant skill and an ability to perceive visuals like few of us can ever imagine, turns old books and encyclopedias into Storybook scenes that will delight and astonish you, both at the same time. This amazing artist might have taken what we call ‘collage’ to a whole new level and it is indeed more befitting to call it ‘book sculpting’.

Alexander Korzer-Robinson’s Book Art

The beauty in the work of this maestro is the fact that he really does not add anything to the book itself. By taking an old book, he starts cutting out images and portions that are unnecessary while leaving the parts that he wishes to keep. Once he is done with all the pages, the remaining visual elements create a stunning picture that tells a whole new story in itself. When it comes to creativity, this is a challenging task on so many different levels. Yet the amazing body of work presented by Korzer-Robinson is consistently filled with awe inspiring panoramas.

For many of us, who have limited artistic gifts, an idea of this sort seems both far fetched and unworkable. Yet, Korzer-Robinson finds the toughest challenges most enjoyable as he claims that it is encyclopedias with their alphabetical arrangement that offer the most fun. The fact that he uses old books to accomplish this is of course a huge plus when you are looking from a green standpoint. Instead of using new material, this gifted artist is employing stuff that the world discards.
