Eco Factor: City Hall for Herstal to provide a naturally illuminated work area.

Belgian architect Frédéric Haesevoets has won a competition to design a new city hall for Herstal. The architecture will accommodate office spaces, archives and mixed use areas. The sustainable architecture will maximize energy conservation by reducing the need for artificial lighting.

The project is divided into two major forms that bookend a public open courtyard that is connected by a bridge. The faceted façade will include several scattered sections of greenery among sections of glass. The unique façade will allow natural light to filter through and greet workers with warm colors.
