Eco Factor: Seven emerging solar technologies to be tested under Chevron’s Project Brightfield.

Chevron Corporation is currently conducting a comprehensive test of emerging solar technologies on a site in Bakersfield, California. Dubbed Project Brightfield, the development is making use of seven emerging photovoltaic technologies that are lined up side by side.

Six of the test products are thin-film photovoltaic technologies, while the last one is a crystalline-silicon photovoltaic technology. The company states that the test is one of the most comprehensive solar energy tests of its kind and is an innovative approach to evaluating new technologies. The 7700 solar panels on the site will be able to generate up to 740KW of electrical power, which will be directed to the local utility and Chevron’s oil production operations.
