Eco Factor: Zero-emission concept three-wheel vehicle powered by electric engine.

According to recent surveys about 60 percent of the journeys in the UK involve a single person. This not only is a waste of precious fuel, but also causes traffic jams. Designers have often proposed three-wheeled compact vehicles to counter the situation. Apart from consuming less space, lightweight three wheelers are more efficient than their four-wheeled counterparts.

Industrial designer Tom Kent is proposing an all-electric three-wheel vehicle dubbed the “Cell” for congested streets of the future. The vehicle is powered by electric batteries and features a unique shape changing mechanism.

The driver can manually control the width of the front track to allow the vehicle to filter through traffic on congested streets. The narrow mode can only be engaged at speeds less than 20kph, where the chamber alters slightly and the rear wheel steering is activated to improve stability.

The vehicle is equipped with transparent solar panels on the side and the roof, which charge the onboard battery bank and also allow natural light to filter into the cabin.
