Imagine traveling around the world and not having to move an inch from your homes. And I mean literally, not virtually.
Based in Rome, Italy, four engineering students by names Lorenzo Carrino, Andrea Bonamore, Riccardo Franchellucci and Lorenzo Bramonti have designed a skyscraper that can achieve this unbelievable reality.
Their design named the Mo.Ho, or the Mobile Housing, is a 50 to 80 meters tall structure that has been created on an existing piece of built environment, as the students believe in achieving a dual motive – increase the density of the city, without crowding its surface area. With the addition of these ‘movable apartments’, the total resultant height of the building is estimated to be 350 and 450 meters.
The addition of the tower over a building could add to its existing value and the rate of the site on which it is built. By doing so, the young student architects hoping to revitalize an entire area, without causing any sort of demolition or destruction.
As part of their initial design, the students have created a clean, green and an eco-friendly space. Structures such as green squares, gardens for public use and athletic areas for sports have been included in the design. All of these are connected to one another by means of ‘green belts’ for the use of the pedestrians. In order to achieve the travel part of the whole project, the design team has situated the Mo.Ho. skyscraper at a neighborhood in San Lorenzo near the Termini station. The advantage of choosing is location is a highway that cuts right above the neighborhood.
These highly flexible, technologically advanced apartment units can be detached from their parent structure and be moved by means of cranes and transported to their desired location with ease and reconnected to another similar skyscraper.
The plan is affordable as all the vital wires and need-base facilities of the unit are situated at a common juncture within itself. Therefore, there is no need for added expenditure on the stay of the new location visited. These apartments can also be reconnected with the parent apartment on returning back home.
Even though the locations and the scenery outside will be on the change, these mobile homes will never let you miss your ‘home, sweet home’.
