California to sell Lawnmowers with smog-emission-reducing catalytic converters

The cumulative emissions produced by lawn mowers and other small-engine machines contribute significantly towards increasing global warming. California has been waiting for long to get permission for slashing emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency has ultimately granted the state with the permission to be implemented nationally next year.

This waiver will allow the most populous state of the nation to sell the highly polluting small engines with catalytic converters starting Jan.1. This will help cut smog emissions by roughly 40 percent.

Bill Wehrum, EPA acting assistant administrator for air and radiation said, The emission standards we are considering would reduce smog-forming pollutants from lawn mowers by over 40 percent when fully implemented.

EPA approved the California waiver request because new, cleaner engines can safely reduce emissions.
