Caine’s Arcade: The world’s greatest cardboard arcade crafted by a 9 year old

This is a story that is sure to make your day. Caine Monroy is a 9 year old kid who spent an entire summer crafting a cardboard arcade from discarded, unused and old cardboard boxes at his dad’s auto store. Being in downtown LA and since most of his business, the shop barely sees anyone who really comes down to the store to get what they want. And those who do walk by, never spare time for the little kid in the blue shirt who wants you to visit and play games in his own arcade center. But, not Nirvan Mullick, who decided to stop by and give it a shot.

Caine Monroy at his Arcade

This really is a beautiful story and a lot beyond the generic ‘recycling and reuse’ art that we get ever so often. It is special because it comes from a 9 year old kid who is not really bothered about anything except building his own arcade center. And the kid is willing to climb into machines and slide out tickets for you after you make hit a winning shot in one of his arcade machines just to ensure that your gaming experience is just as it would be anywhere else.

When Caine invited Nirvan Mullick, who was passing by the store, to play a game, the filmmaker just could not refuse. To top off the deal, Caine told his very first customer that he could play four turns for $1 or buy a pass for 500 turns for $2. Mullick saw the merit in taking the pass and soon he had plenty of fun. And the filmmaker decided to bring in a few more customers and the end result was a fun flashmob thanks to promotion on online that lit up the young kid’s day.
